Pals Wine & Cheese fair
Every August the pretty medieval town of Pals, in the Costa Brava, buzzes with activity for the two-day annual Catalan Wine and Cheese Fair. Pals is, together with neighboring Begur, a member of the network CittaSlow(the network of cities that adhere to the Slow Food movement), so organizing this event here really makes sense. The event has been held at the courtyard of one of the main medieval building in the old town, that also holds an exhibition of Catalan wines, and attracts scores of visitors from all the neighboring towns and beaches.
The fair is an ideal place to taste wine from Catalonia, see the map with the different Catalan Designations of Origin
This fair started as a way to promote Catalan wines 30 years ago, and 15 years ago the cheese component was added. The ticket gives you access to a sample of Catalan wines (over 250 wine references from all over Catalonia are represented) and artisan cheeses, the latter served on a convenient wooden plate, which makes it easier to share (and you can keep for reuse at home), you can also go for a cheese or wine only ticket. Over 250 wine references from all over Catalonia are represented. Although I would strongly recommend taking the combined one, as the produce has been carefully selected to give you a glimpse of the best Catalan produce, with a strong focus on the local Emporda region.
If you happen to be in the Costa Brava in mid-August this is an event not to be missed!
